A Prayer for Parents Seeking God’s Wisdom

Lord, you say a wise woman builds her house. Please give us the wisdom we need to do it with you as the rock, the centre, the foundations that we build our house upon. Teach us to number our days so that we can be more intentional to fulfil the plans you have for us in each moment of our lives. Give us a heart of wisdom. Show us as your children how to apply our own hearts to your word, so that we can look and search for your wisdom. When we find it, show us how to receive it with gladness and hold onto it and act on it during our parenting. Let us spread the knowledge of it through the words we speak. I pray that we would accept your words, store up your commands, turn our ears to wisdom, and apply our hearts to understanding so that we understand the fear of the Lord and find knowledge of you. In your mercy and grace, show us your ways. Teach us your path, guide us in your truth, for you are God our saviour and our hope is in you all day long. You say, blessed are those who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him. Thank you for your promise and forgive us for when we forget to seek your kingdom first, and we try to work out our struggles in our own strength. Reveal to us where our hearts are not aligned with your will. Let the foundations in our home be filled with your word, love and faithfulness, prayer, wisdom, light and grace. Thank you that you promise to supply all our needs according to the riches of your glory in Christ Jesus. Guide us into obedience so that we can be the parents you have created us to be. Open doors of opportunity for us to teach and model Jesus to our children. Lead us by your spirit. Your word tells us that discipline yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness, it doesn’t always feel like that in the difficult moments Lord, help us to trust in this truth. As parents, unite our method of discipline with each other and align them with your ways. Let the words we speak towards each other and our children be like a tree of life, and our tongues bring healing. Forgive us for words we speak that are like a thrusting sword, bringing pain and hurt. Give us your words of life and root them firmly in our hearts so that they would promote instruction. Give us the wisdom to examine our own hearts, and emotions and behaviours during challenging situations in our family life, so that we can approach these challenges with grace, mercy and love, love that came from you first. In Jesus name, Amen.
