Our words have the power to build up or tear down. In families especially, what we say can bring encouragement or create hurt. This prayer asks God to guide our speech so that our words reflect His wisdom, love, and peace in our homes.
Heavenly Father,
Give us the wisdom that comes from you so that the words of our mouth and the meditations of our heart would be pleasing in your sight, (Psalm 19:4).
Help each one of us in our families to think before we speak and help us to speak with words that build each other up. Put a guard on our mouth when we become tempted to speak from our fleshly desires.
Our words can either bring life or destruction, let them glorify you and bring healing to those around us Lord. Show us how we can encourage one another and discern each others needs.
Let your light shine through our words and lead us by your spirit so that your power and love reveals truth in what we say.
When we are dealing with difficult family situations, give us self-control so that what we speak comes from your spirit. I pray that what we say would unite us in our families not tear us apart.
Bring healing to families that have been broken by harmful words, and bind up their wounds.
Let each of us listen and receive knowledge of what you are teaching us through different situations in our life. Help us to put your teaching into action.
Thank you for your word Lord, I pray that we would not neglect it, and that we would council each other through it.

When we teach and instruct our children and loved ones, give us your compassion, love and understanding. Forgive our words of accusation and offence, and guide us to teach with words of affirmation. Let us not be proud, but humble us Lord. Teach us to listen well to others, and not respond with words fueled with anger. A harsh word stirs up anger, (proverbs 15:1). Give us the patience to listen to our children, and not be quick to respond, but be wise in our thoughts, to show understanding and gentleness.
Give us teachable hearts so that when we are corrected, we would have the discipline to respond in the way you would respond Jesus. Your word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, (Psalm 119:105). We praise you and thank you that your power is made perfect in our weakness.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil.
In Jesus name,
Amen.
May the Lord guide our words so that our homes are filled with encouragement, grace, and unity.
